SFG Advisors Participate
On June 24-29, SFG team members participated in the second annual Financial Literacy program, sponsored by and hosted at North Carolina Central University School of Business. This program is specifically designed for minority high school students and is intended to address one of the leading causes of the wealth gap in the United States – that is, the lack of financial literacy.
Jay Alava, Lindsay Brock, Hayden Elms, Kai King, Teresa Talton and John Thomas, took part in teaching fundamental financial concepts to this group of students, some of whom had travelled from as far away as Florida. Our hope at SFG, in partnering with NCCU School of Business, is to utilize our core competencies to help level the playing field for these students.
To help emphasize this focus, topics such as Preparing for College, Home Ownership, Tax Planning, Money Basics, and more were covered by the instructors. These topics will help the students not just in their immediate future, but in the long term as well. SFG advisors enjoyed working with and interacting with the students, making a lasting impact on many who found what they learned each day to be vitally important. This was evident in the mock camp presentations and case studies that the students presented to Hayden, Kai and Lindsay on the final day of camp.
